Dubai: Dubai International Airport has unveiled its new “Unlimited Smart Travel” passport-control system in the Terminal 3 First and Business Class lounges on April 23, 2025.
Integrating advanced AI-driven facial recognition and identity verification to allow groups of up to ten travellers to pass through immigration in just 14 seconds without stopping for document checks, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs—Dubai said in a statement during Dubai AI Week.
Building on data and lessons from the 2020 Smart Tunnel rollout, the upgrade employs multiple cameras to capture faces from any angle, boosts throughput tenfold, and slashes service steps while enhancing both customer and staff satisfaction.
Launched as part of the airport’s vision to improve traveller quality of life and prepare for an anticipated 8 percent rise in passenger traffic, the initiative represents a “qualitative leap” in smart mobility; officials noted plans to extend the system to arriving passengers, requiring only one initial registration to store biometric data for future seamless border crossings.
